"I don't believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute," Santorum, a devout Catholic, said in an interview from Michigan on ABC's "This Week."
"The First Amendment means the free exercise of religion and that means bringing people and their faith into the public square."
Really Rickster, so the Muslims should be welcomed to bring their faith into the public square? I should be able to bring mine, which is neither of the others, into the public square? Or is that reserved for only Christians? Do you know what Sharia law is Ricky?
"Sharia, or Islamic law, influences the legal code in most Muslim countries. Sharia governs personal status law, a set of regulations that pertain to marriage, divorce, inheritance, and custody."
Yes Rick it is Religious law, doled out by religious experts. You are lobbying for a Christian version of Sharia law. You may be surprised to find that most of the country , even those with strong faith, do not believe in Dominionism or you and your Talibangelicals.
I've said this before and I'll repeat it here, the righties are going to out conservative themselves this year with radical right wing ideology and old hackneyed ideas.
Oil is going up again so you can be sure Pavlovs dogs are going to be hollering drill baby drill. They are completely unaware that supply and demand no longer control our markets. They seem to think the little more oil we have left in the US would make a price difference.
...Brockwell says gasoline exports, on a four week average, are now running 600,000 barrels a day compared to 200,000 barrels per day a year ago. He says this is the equivalent of three of the largest refineries in the US exporting most of their gasoline production.
Demand is low:
Feb 17 (Reuters) - U.S. crude oil demand plunged in January, dragged down by weak heating oil use, the American Petroleum Institute said on Friday. Demand for gasoline fell 0.2 percent to 8.398 million bpd in January, an nine-year low for the month.
Yet the prices go up, up, up.
It's not based on supply and demand.
...Meiffren notes that Exxon-Mobil chief executive officer Rex Tillerson said Wall Street speculators are driving up the price of oil by 40 percent.
As is nearly always the case now, Wall St. is robbing you blind. Don't expect the right to figure this out though. Most of them are too busy defending tax breaks for the plutocrats and their cohorts and insisting that they have so few regulations that they can do what ever they want. ..Oh and replying with the Pavlovian drill bayb drill.
We need new free/renewable energy NOW. Don't expect the right to have any ideas besides natural gas(not renewable or free) ,or we need more oil until we get to that point. I've been hearing that same "until" line for well over a decade now. When are we going to stand up and do it!? The technology and brains are there, we only need a national will to do so. There are a multitude of good reasons to do it, not the least national security. Theres also independence from power companies and self sustainability(something the right always pontificates on).
Of course when our plutocrats spend big money delaying progress so they can squeeze every ounce of profit out of oil, that could a be long time and many hardships more.
I could write reams on so many things going on right now but I just wanted to point out how tired, hackneyed and left behind the right wing knee jerk reactionaries have become. It rarely seems even worth pointing out anymore. They have become totally irrelevant. They are down to cheerleading, bombast and longing for yesterday.
Maybe someday they will figure out who is really running things and who is the real authoritarian power they should be fighting. That would be great cuz then we could band together and get our country back from the plutocrats. Unfortunately watching the worship of them as the beacons of capitalism makes me think I shouldn't be holding my breath.
The future happens and they cant stop it forever. They are going to have a hard time letting go of the old paradigm. It's going to be ugly for them for a while and they will lash out even more.
For those of us anxious for a brighter future instead of longing for the past its going to be an exciting time. Welcome to the future!

Wow! I come back after a long absence and you're making the same accusations with the same lack of evidence; the same lack of "NAMES!!" That is, WHO is it that is controlling things as you suspect? You know. That REAL authoritarian power!
But let's go back to the top, Ronny, Ronster, Ronorama. Where, in anything that Santorum has said about religion in the public square, do you infer a plan to build a theocratic government? Huh? Where? This is the same old crap you lefty moonbats throw out every time a person of faith expresses the true meaning and intention of the 1st Amendment. You loonies really need to study the Constitution and the founding of our nation. You don't have a clue.
What Santorum is saying is that basing one's opinions or even legislative proposals on one's faith was never meant to be vorbotten in American politics. (Indeed, many of the founders encouraged that men of faith be selected for high office.) Basing any law on the morality of one's firmly held religious beliefs was never frowned upon. The only concern is the practical application, and whether or not it makes sense regardless of the religious beliefs of the one who proposed it.
That is to say, that simply because one states, or is believed to be putting forth, an idea based on one's faith, the idea should be judged on its merits alone, not the faith that compelled it. Easy examples are murder or theft. I can state plainly and easily that I oppose the both of them due to my Christian faith and upbringing. But I don't need that faith to demonstrate the benefits of outlawing those behaviors. Should I not support outlawing those behaviors because it is my faith that tells me they are wrong? You non-believers like to think you are morally superior for "not needing" God/Christ to tell you how to live. But should I forsake Him, why would I give a flying rat's ass what some schmuck like YOU thinks about morality?
The idea that any candidate who would speak against the fictitious "separation of church and state" nonsense put forth by the self-serving in this country is a threat to the liberty of heathens is ludicrous and not supportable by any facts.
As to oil, it is coincidental that I dropped by as I just posted a piece at my blog with a link to an article about the notion of oil being a finite resource. You should check it out. Specifically, check out the links the article provides for more details about the theory. (It's the most recent post at my blog)
As I look at your sourced info, I see some points on which to comment:
the Reuters piece: Demand IS low for heating oil. It's March. The average temp for this time of year is 40-45 degrees Farenheit. Today it was in the 80's again. We've had a mild winter.
But to think that speculators are the evil bastards causing prices to go up is goofy. Speculators can make money regardless of price direction of any given commodity. They also serve to reflect what is happening so as to regulate the prices as a free market should. In other words, when situations such as warm weather on one hand, or political events abroad on the other take place, those events will move prices up or down. Speculators merely anticipate these shifts.
For example, if your man Obama were to remove his head from his ass and get all the roadblocks removed for, yes, drilling, new refineries and let the industry get to work (including that pipeline deal with Canada), the speculators would be speculating on price drops due to expected increase in oil supply. It happened when GW Bush lifted the presidential moratorium on drilling during is presidency and the prices fell immediately. Too bad Congress didn't do their part.
But here's the thing you lefty lunatics don't realize or care about: If there is a true demand for alternatives to oil, coal or whatever, those with good ideas will get things done regardless of the oil and coal situation. Business, that you hate like the covetous whiner you are, will always work to meet the demands of the public. That's how they make money.
Geez Art you are back with your word salad thinking I want to engage in pugilism with you.
I welcome you to see the world as you wish but I find it impossible to view it like you do and retain any sense of morality or purpose. Maybe that's just me.
The world I see is certainly not the one you see. I'm making no value judgement on that I'm just stating we live in different worlds. Hence when we debate we aren't even talking about or valuing the same things.Different conversations completely. Its impossible. You are welcome to live your conservative values. I'm not a conservative and don't want to be one.
We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are.

Your response here has no bearing on anything my comments presented. There are simple questions posed that has nothing to do with the differences in how we see the world (your way based on your reality---mine based on actual reality). It's the same with all you lefties, as I've been learning lately at another lefty site: Run from defending your position while talking about coming together as a people. Coming together in any way, shape or form will not happen until cowards like you really open your minds and open your hearts and open some dialogue with those who ask questions about the things you present. All the questions I've asked of you in the past year do not require debate, but merely an exchange of ideas and, more to the point, clarifications and explanations of YOUR ideas and opinions. I'll ask of you what I've not had answered by the other lefty:
What if someone of like mind asked the questions I've asked? Would tell them to go pound sand as well? I understand you don't want to be a conservative. That idiocy is for another time and not a topic I've tried to cover here.
I have no intention of defending anything art.Its already pretty clear what I think isn't it? Im offering a perspective. I dont expect everyone to like it or want it. Its food for thought for those so inclined. Im not here to MAKE you believe differently. Thats not my goal.
